Statement about Turkey from founder of Twitter: They constantly threatened to shut down

Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey listed the countries where they were being oppressed in an interview published on YouTube. Dorsey who stated that Turkey was among them, added “We have fought in the courts in Turkey. And we usually won. But they constantly threatened to shut us down.”

Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of Twitter, made statements on the “Breaking Points” news program published on YouTube. Dorsey told about the difficulties they faced in some countries, including Turkey.

Dorsey gave examples from India, Nigeria and Turkey, according to a report by DW Turkish, as cited by Reuters.

“For example, India… India is a country that has made a lot of requests from us regarding farmer protests and certain journalists who criticize the government,” Dorsey said, continuing his words as follows:

“They did this by various means. They said, we will shut down Twitter in India which is a very big Sunday for us. They said, we will raid the homes of your employees which they did. They said, if you don’t do what we say, we will close your offices. And this is India, a democratic country.”

Dorsey stated that there was a situation in Turkey that was “very similar” to that in India. He said “We have also received a lot of requests from Turkey. We fought in the courts in Turkey. And we usually won. But they constantly threatened to shut us down.”

Dorsey said that in Nigeria, they could not send personnel to this country because they were afraid of what the government might do.
