TURKEY TO PROTECT KABUL AIRPORT

As Turkey continues to negotiate with the United States to protect Kabul airport in Afghanistan, the Taliban has made a statement on the issue. The Taliban condemned the situation and warned Ankara that the steps it took would have consequences.

The Taliban warned Turkey, which is considering leaving some military units in the country to operate and protect Kabul airport after foreign troops leave Afghanistan, saying it was a “reprehensible” strategy. Reuters quoted the Taliban as warning Ankara that any steps it would take would have “consequences.”

After the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, Turkey, which has offered to operate the Kabul airport and be responsible for the security of the site, is in talks with the United States about receiving financial, political and logistical support.

“IF THEY DON’T RECONSIDER THEIR DECISION…”

“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan condemns this abhorrent decision” the Taliban statement said. “If the Turkish authorities do not review these decisions and continue to invade our country, the Islamic Emirate will take a stand against them.” The statement also said responsibility for events to take place would belong to countries intervening in Afghanistan.
