TRAIN ACCIDENT IN INDIA

The death toll in the train accident in the Indian state of Orissa has reached 288. According to initial investigations, the accident was caused by a signal error. The accident involving two passenger trains and a freight train occurred at 19.20 local time yesterday near Bahanaga Bazar Railway Station in Balasore district of Orissa State. In the accident, 288 people lost their lives and more than 900 people were injured.

In the investigation initiated by the railway authorities, it has been stated that according to the initial findings, the accident may have been caused by a “signal error”.

According to the information obtained by the Indian Express, the train that entered the main line, collided with a freight train, despite the fact that the crossing signal was given first for the Coromandel Express and then the signal was cut off.

While a comprehensive report on the accident is expected to be prepared in a short time, the reason for the signal being given and canceled again is not yet known.
