Turkey not in list for first group of countries announced by EU for open borders on July 1

The Council of the European Union (EU) has announced the first group of countries set for the 1 July deadline for opening the borders with an official statement issued. Accordingly it is observed that Turkey is not included in the first list published, but the list is said to be updated again on July 15.

The EU Council said in a statement, “The EU Council has agreed to begin lifting travel restrictions for those living in some third countries”.

The council today adopted a proposal to gradually lift temporary restrictions on non-mandatory travel to the EU. The statement thus issued said “Travel restrictions should be lifted for the countries on the recommended list, this list should be reviewed and updated every 2 weeks depending on the situation”.

The statement read, “Based on the criteria and conditions set out in the recommendation decision, from July 1, member states should begin lifting travel restrictions at external borders for residents of the following third countries,”

Referred countries are as follows: “Rwanda, Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, Uruguay.

The statement also said “Residents of Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican should be considered as EU residents for this proposal and as far as China is concerned the expression “subject to mutual confirmation” was used.

Turkey was not included in the list.
