Turkey’s budget deficit for January-August 2024 amounts to 973 billion 554 million Turkish lira

According to a statement from the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the central government budget deficit for the period of January-August 2024 amounted to 973 billion 554 million Turkish lira.

The statement from the Ministry of Treasury and Finance reads as follows:

“In the period of January-August 2024, central government budget expenditures amounted to 6 trillion 226.6 billion TL, budget revenues were 5 trillion 253 billion TL, and the budget deficit was 973.6 billion TL. Additionally, non-interest budget expenditures amounted to 5 trillion 462.6 billion TL, and the non-interest deficit was 209.5 billion TL.”

In comparison, during the January-August period of 2023, the central government budget recorded a deficit of 383 billion 384 million TL.

In terms of the income-expenditure balance for the month of August alone, a deficit of 129 billion 594 million TL was recorded, while in July, the deficit stood at 96 billion 776 million TL.
