Turkey’s Parliament accepts proposal for electoral law amendment

The election law proposal, which includes reducing the electoral threshold, was adopted and signed into law at the General Assembly of the Parliament. The country’s election threshold, which is applied by law as 10 percent in the elections, will be reduced to 7 percent.

If the total number of votes received by the alliance exceeds the country threshold, the number of votes received by each party participating in the alliance will be taken into account in that election circle, in the calculation and distribution of deputies in electoral circles.

The party that has obtained the qualification to participate in the election will lose its qualification to participate in the election if it has not convened its district, provincial and major congresses twice in a row within the specified periods.

Having established a group only in Parliament will not be one of the sufficient conditions for participating in the election.

The president will be exempted from all election bans.
