Turkish Airlines Company takes new measures against coronavirus outbreak crisis

It is observed that the coronavirus epidemic which originated in Wuhan, China has also paralyzed the aviation industry worldwide. Because of the outbreak, many flights of airlines have been cancelled in Turkey as well as throughout the world and most of their planes have been brought down. Airlines, whose revenues have fallen due to drastic losses in passenger numbers are in a difficult position. Turkish Airlines for instance has announced that it is continuing efforts to minimize the impact of coronavirus.

Turkish Airlines informed the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) about the measures taken due to coronavirus. Turkish Airlines said due to the global outbreak of new coronavirus (Covid-19), important regulations had been made in its flights and all international flights to combat the epidemic had  been temporarily halted as of March 27, 2020 at 23:59 (TSI), while domestic flights to major cities would be carried out in a limited manner.

Turkish Airlines statement submitted to KAP regarding the matter read, “We conduct work to reduce the operational costs of the company and increase its financial liquidity. We take cost-reducing measures such as voluntary unpaid leave and partial work related to staff expenses. We will cancel or postpone a significant portion of our planned investment items. Furthermore, we are taking measures to keep the liquidity level strong by evaluating new financing opportunities. We are discussing with important suppliers and working on the revision of payment calendars. Different scenarios and action plans are being studied regarding the duration and magnitude of the impact of the outbreak. Important developments on the subject will be shared with the public.”
