Foreign Minister Mevlut CAVUSOGLU said that he had a conversation with the Syrian Foreign Minister in Belgrade and said: “The only way out for this country is political reconciliation. Terrorists need to be cleared, no matter who they are. We said that there should be peace between the regime and Syrians opposing the regime and that we, as Turkey, could support this.”

Turkey’s Foreign Minister addressed the ambassadors in the “Lunch with the Business World” program, within the scope of the 13th Ambassadors Conference.

Answering the questions of journalists at the conference, Cavusoglu answered the question of contact with Syria.

“There is no such contact at the moment. For a long time, Putin and Russian officials have wanted our President to meet Assad. Our President also said that it would be useful for intelligence organizations to meet and discuss. There have been meetings between intelligence agencies in the past. Then there were interruptions, now it’s started again.”

CAVUSOGLU also noted following: “While chatting with other ministers in Belgrade, I had a short conversation with the Syrian Foreign Minister. The only way out for this country is political reconciliation. Terrorists need to be cleared, no matter who they are. We support the territorial integrity of Syria more than anyone. We also support the fight against separatist terrorist organizations. We have no eyes on the territory of Syria. But if there is no unity in Syria, Syria faces the risk of division.”
