“Zeugma Mosaic Museum” Breaks Visitor Record

ZEUGMA MUSEUM

The Zeugma Mosaic Museum in Gaziantep broke its daily visitor record yesterday by hosting 5,660 people. An announcement from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s General Directorate of Cultural Assets and Museums on social media stated, “Our Gaziantep Zeugma Mosaic Museum has broken the all-time daily visitor record with 5,660 visitors. Thank you very much for your interest. You are always welcome.”

WHAT’S IN THE ZEUGMA MUSEUM?

The museum displays mosaics from Zeugma dating back to 300 BC. Additionally, the world-famous “Gypsy Girl” mosaic is exhibited here.

The mosaics in Zeugma consist of thirteen colors harmoniously. The Zeugma Mosaic Museum building, constructed in three blocks, houses mosaic and archaeology museums, exhibition, and conference halls.

25,000 SQUARE METERS OF INDOOR SPACE

The Museum was opened on 09.09.2011. The total seating area of the Zeugma Mosaic Museum and Exhibition and Conference Center is 30,000 square meters, with 25,000 square meters of indoor space.

The complex consists of three building groups: In Block A, mosaics brought from the ancient city of Zeugma are displayed; in Block B, mosaic floors of churches dating back to the Eastern Roman period, unearthed in excavations in Gaziantep and its surroundings, are exhibited; and Block C contains administrative floors, conference, and foyer areas.

The Zeugma Mosaic Museum collection includes 3,000 square meters of Roman and Eastern Roman period mosaics, 140 square meters of wall paintings, 4 Roman fountains, 20 columns, 4 statues made of limestone, a bronze statue of Mars, tombstones, sarcophagi, and architectural pieces.
