IC ICTAS, the contractor and operator of Zafer Airport which became popular in the world by not managing to reach even 1 percent of the number of passengers guaranteed as per the B.O.T model has announced that they are waiting for offers for sale.

Zafer Airport, which was opened in 2012 on BOT model in order to serve Kütahya, Afyon and Uşak provinces, is not going well.

Speaking to Bloomberg an official with IC ICTAS, the operating company, said they were waiting for bids to sell Zafer Airport. “We are ready to hand over the airport to whoever pays our investment cost and assumes the debt” he said.

Keles, who suggested that they had not earned a penny from the airport so far, said that despite state guarantees, they had to invest capital to the airport every year.

THE MARGIN OF ERROR IS 99 PERCENT

The state paid a total guarantee of 45.9 million euros to the company which had an investment cost of 50 million euros, in the period 2012-2020.

The total population of Kütahya-Afyon and Uşak served by the airport is 1 million 678 thousand people, while the passenger guarantee given to the airport for 2020 was 1 million 280 thousand. In 2020, the number of people using the airport remained at 7429, and the margin of error reached a level that is difficult to believe with 99 percent.

Prior to the pandemic, the airport’s passenger count in 2019 had reached only 6 percent of the guaranteed number of passengers. IC Içtaş has the right to operate the airport until 2044.
