VACCINES APPROVED BY EU PASSPORT

An announcement has been made on the “vaccine passport” recently adopted by the European Union. The statement said that only vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) would be accepted in the vaccine passport of EU countries.

The “health passport” or “vaccine passport” developed by the European Union, aiming to facilitate travel and revitalize the tourism sector as the summer holidays approach, will prove that a person is not at risk of covid-19 transmission.

A digital or paper passport with a QR code will contain information that people have been vaccinated against Covid-19, a PCR or rapid antigen test result, or are being treated.

EMA-APPROVED VACCINES

Only vaccines approved by the European Medicine Agency (EMA) will be accepted in the vaccine passport, which will be valid in the EU’s 27 countries. The vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency so far are Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZenaca and Johnson&Johnson.

The Sinovac and Sputnik vaccines are expected to be approved by the EMA. Sputnik entered the evaluation process by the EMA on March 4, but Sinovac has no agreement with the European Union (EU) and no request for permission has been made public.

PASSPORT REQUIREMENT NOT SPECIFIED

No final explanation has been given about the requirement for the vaccine passport which is due to start being used on June 15. The document needs to be studied and approved by the members of the Council and the European Parliament before entering into force before the summer.
