Court rules prison sentence and political ban for IMAMOGLU, mayor of Istanbul

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu was sentenced to 2 years, 7 months and 15 days in prison in the case where he was tried on the grounds of insulting the YSK chairman and members. A political ban decision was made on Imamoğlu.

Imamoğlu said in a statement after the decision was announced, “A handful of people cannot take the authority given by the people. Our struggle starts stronger with the permission of Allah”

According to the assessment of some impartial political experts, this case is being used by the administration to sentence Imamoglu to more than 4 years and thus make him banned from politics.
