SARMAT BALISTIC MISSILE

On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian Defense Ministry tested an intercontinental ballistic missile called Sarmat with a launch from the Plesetsk Space Base. US officials announced that they were tracking the missile and were not worried.

As Russia’s attacks on Ukraine continue, the Russian Ministry of Defense conducted the first launch test of an intercontinental ballistic missile called Sarmat from the Plesetsk Space Base in the Arkhangelsk region at 15:12 TSI. Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the launch of a ballistic missile fired at a target on Russia’s Kamchatka Island.

PUTIN said “I congratulate you on the successful launch of the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile” about the ballistic missile during the meeting held via videoconference. “This is an important event in the development of the Russian army. This missile has the highest tactical and technical characteristics and is able to overcome all modern means of anti-missile defense. They have no alike missiles  in the world and will not do for a long time. This is truly unique weapon, and it will strengthen the combat potential of our armed forces. It will ensure Russia’s security against external threats, and this weapon will make those who are trying to threaten us think again.”

“THE MOST POWERFUL MISSILE THAT DESTROYS THE LONGEST-RANGE TARGETS IN THE WORLD”

“Sarmat is the most powerful missile that will significantly increase the combat power of the strategic nuclear forces of our country, destroy the longest-range targets in the world,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement about the missile test, quoting that the missile hit the target set at the Kura Training Ground on Kamchatka Island with a full hit.

It is noted that the Sarmat ballistic missile will replace the Voyevoda ballistic missile developed by Russia in 1988, while the Sarmat ballistic missile is capable of exceeding the north and south polar targets and is estimated to have a range of 11 to 18 thousand kilometers.

STATEMENT FROM THE USA

The announcement came by the United States after Russia tested the intercontinental ballistic missile. Two US officials told the press that Russia’s intercontinental ballistic missile test was planned in advance, and that the United States had been informed about the missile test within international agreements. The US is tracking the missile and is not worried, the officials said, adding that the this missile was not yet operational in the Russian inventory.

Both Russia and the United States are keeping other countries informed of the tests to avoid any incidents under an existing international agreement. “Such tests are routine and not a surprise,” US Department of Defense (Pentagon) spokesman John Kirby told reporters, explaining that he did not consider the missile test in question a threat to the United States or its allies.
