Forbes announces richest people in Turkey: New name at top of the list

26 names from Turkey were included in the ‘Billionaires List’ published by the US-based Forbes magazine for the 37th time this year. Murat Ülker who was at the top for years, lost the first place to Ibrahim Erdemoğlu.

Ibrahim Erdemoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Erdemoğlu Holding became the richest name in Turkey with a fortune of 5.3 billion dollars and became the 497th richest person in the world. What made Erdemoglu the richest in Turkey was the increase in the value of the shares of SASA Polyester, one of the most talked-about companies on the Borsa Istanbul. Erdemoğlu Holding owns Merino Carpet, Dinarsu and Sultan Carpet in addition to SASA.

Murat Ülker, who was at the top for years, has fallen to second place. However, Ülker’s wealth increased compared to last year and became $ 5 billion.

Ali Erdemoğlu, one of the shareholders of SASA with a fortune of 4.7 billion dollars, took the third place. Thus, the total wealth of SASA shareholder Erdemoğlu brothers exceeded 10 billion dollars.
