Israeli opposition agrees: 12-year Netanyahu term very close to come to an end
Yesh Atid party leader Yair Lapid, tasked with forming a government in Israel is preparing to end the 12-year term of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with a coalition government supported by Yesh Atid, Blue and White, Yisrael Beytenu, Yamina, New Hope, Labor, Meretz and the United Arab List (Ra’am).
Israel’s early general election on March 23 caused a political crisis that began after no party reached the number of MPs needed to form a government and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to form a government. The crisis now seems to have come to an end.
Yair Lapid, a political opponent of Netanyahu and leader of the Yesh Atid party, who was tasked with forming a government in Israel called and informed Israeli President Reuven Rivlin that he had managed to form a coalition government with the support of 8 parties.
Yesh Atid made a statement saying “After intensive work on behalf of all Israeli citizens and a 2-year political crisis, Yesh Atid’s leader, Yair Lapid has informed Rivlin that he has managed to form a government.”
The question now is “Could this be a beginning to take a first step on the way to peace in Palestine issue”.
