NGOs call on authorities to stop construction plans on Yassıca islands, in Göcek.

Claims that the world-famous YASSICA islands in the Gocek neighborhood of Fethiye, one of Turkey’s important tourist spots, were leased by MUCHEV to a private company and construction work on the islands would be initiated have mobilized NGO members.
President of Fethiye branch of the Maritime Chamber of Commerce has held a press conference on this issue. ARIKAN explained to reporters that they were following the increased construction activities in the natural bays declared as the ÖÇK region, in recent years, with great concern.
The President also shared following:
Number of buildings in our untouched natural bays preferred by charter and day boats is increasing everyday under the names of restaurants, huts, showers, boat binding place, pier and destroying the naturalness of our bays and seas, damaging marine tourism prospects and development.
We have learned in amazement that YASSICA Islands, one of the most popular bays of our region and the brand value of boat tourism, and also included in the promotional photos of Turkey, will be rented to third parties by MUCHEV and converted into a business operation spot.
IT IS OFFICIALLY A MASSACRE OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL LIFE
The President stated that they had said “Stop” to the planned destruction in the region and shared the following statements:
“While boats are fined 70 thousand lira penalty for a liter of waste, sewage and waste water will be poured into the sea along with the business that is on the agenda to be made on the islands of YASSICA, which will in return cause great damage to the region, natural life and our health. This is officially a massacre of the environment and natural life.
– Just as no construction can be realized at spots such asTopkapi Palace or Pamukkale travertine, the same applies to the YASSICA Islands, one of the most important advertising faces of our country. Even the thought of that is unacceptable.
Increasing construction in the bays of our region is irreversibly destroying our natural beauty. These alarming developments also destroy the prestige and tourism potential of our country on the international platform.
WE CALL ON AUTHORITIES TO STOP THIS CONSTRUCTION
The President went on to say “We will not allow natural wonder and cultural values and our future to be destroyed. We call on the competent authorities to urgently stop this construction, which will eliminate the reason why our region is preferred in maritime tourism. We call on all competent institutions to bring the ongoing construction in all coastal areas, YASSICA islands and bays in our region.” (DHA)
