Pandemic changes holiday concept, tops camping-caravan preference

A most recent research has revealed the striking results of the pandemic effect in holiday understanding. According to the same study, domestic holidays increased by 35 percent, while overseas demands decreased by 44 percent. The proportion of people who go on holiday with their private vehicles has increased by 21 per cent compared to 2020.

The covid-19 pandemic, which affected the whole world, has brought significant changes and new trends to the agenda in tourism, as in many areas. The pandemic process, in which hygiene and safety came to the fore, led to significant changes in ‘ travel and holiday habits of consumers.

People’s tendency to stay away from crowded places is observed to have increased interest in eco-tourism (nature tourism).

While the proportion of those who prefer small and boutique hotels in terms of accommodation is rising, accommodation units such as Home Tourism, villa rentals, yacht tours with small groups and camping-caravans are also attracting great interest.

According to the research results;

Along with Covid-19, there has been a change in holiday preferences. A 39% increase in domestic holiday preferences was observed, while a 44% decrease in foreign holiday preferences was found.

Covid-19 has an effective rate of 54.1% on the desire to camp. The most prominent reasons are the desire to meet nature with the effect of prohibitions/closures and areas that are not crowded/fit for social distance/the desire to escape from the crowd.

Holiday destinations that people can reach without getting too far from the place where they live are now found safer.

Based on research results, there seems to be a serious potential for the development Turkey’s camping/caravan opportunities and it is vital to increase promotional and marketing activities as due.
