The US pharmaceutical company Pfizer has shared the effectiveness rate of the coronavirus pill they are developing. The company said the pill reduced the rate of hospitalizations or deaths due to the virus by 89 percent.

Pfizer said it planned to submit interim trial results for its pill, which is bundled with an antiviral called ritonavir, to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The combination therapy, which will have the brand name Paxlovid, consists of three pills given twice a day.

In this study one thousand 219 people who had been diagnosed with mild or moderate Covid-19 and had at least one serious risk, such as obesity or old age, were examined.
