Polonezköy… This is a very charming village built by the Polish people in Istanbul, many decades ago. It is the sort of place people fleeing the city and looking for a natural atmosphere would think “This is the world we miss” the moment they arrive at this unique spot. Today it is indeed one of the most popular recreation places in the mega town..

The story goes back to 19th century:  A polish prince called Adam Czartoryski who is in exile in Paris towards the middle of the century, believes his country can win its independence with the help of the Ottoman Empire, establishes a Polish representation office in Istanbul and appoints General Michal Czajkowski as the head of the office. Czajkowski adopts Islam and takes the name Mehmet Sadik Pasha, buys a forested land from Lazarian priests in Istanbul and names it “Adampol”.

In time, it becomes a place where everyone would like to see and enjoy the hospitality offered by Poles living in the village. Poles welcome their visitors / guests and serve them their famous cakes and other delicious food. In time these regular / frequent visits turn this village into a tourism spot.

Currently, approximately 90 citizens of Polish origin live in Polonezköy. There are about six hotels and 38 hostels in the village. They make their living from accommodation and continue to practice the cultures of their ancestors. They also built a mosque with a cultural house in the village. Their homes are in or near the gardens of their businesses.

At one end of the village there is a church and cemetery, while at the other end there are small hostels and restaurants lined up. In the middle of the village there is an art center and village coffee shop and on the way down to the right of the square there are several nice restaurants.

Polonezköy, also called the garden of Istanbul, enjoys spring in almost every season. It has lush gardens, country restaurants, picnic areas, accommodation facilities such as peaceful hostels and hotels, places for extreme sports, recreation, horse riding and sightseeing spots. It is particularly preferred by citizens for short (weekend) holidays. Certainly several houses have been restored recently and new facilities have been opened.

Polonezköy which is designated as “Nature Reserve” and included in the National Parks of Turkey has its best season in May and June. Also, an event under the name of Cherry Festival is held here in the first week of June.
