President Erdogan appoints Lütfi ELVAN as Turkey’s new Treasury and Finance Minister

Lutfi Elvan, the new Treasury and Finance Minister appointed to replace Berat Albayrak, who resigned over his social media account, answered questions directed at him by journalists.

The new Treasury and Finance Minister, had a brief interview with reporters. Elvan said the appointment came as a surprise to him. It is understood that Berat Albayrak will not attend a handover ceremony at the Ministry of Treasury and Finance due to health problems.

Who is Lütfi ELVAN?

Born in 1962 in Karaman Ermenek, Lütfi Elvan served as a specialist, department head and deputy undersecretary in various public institutions.

He has served as Vice-Chairman of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development Rural Development Group, Chairman of the Board of the European Union Centre for Education and youth, and member of the EU negotiation monitoring and Steering Committee.

He was elected as a member of Parliament from Mersin, several times. During this period, he served as co-chair of the Turkey-EU Joint Parliamentary Commission and as Turkey’s representative for the Southeast European cooperation process.

During his term he was also a chairman of the Planning and Budget Commission and Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications. In the 64th government cabinet he served as Minister of Development in the government.
