Russian President Vladimir Putin said they had managed to avoid the heaviest scenarios of the spread of coronavirus in the capital Moscow, the centre of the outbreak in the country. The Russian leader also noted that the number of unemployed in the country had risen to 1.9 million.

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a videoconference meeting with Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin to discuss the point of fighting the epidemic in the capital.

Putin said Moscow had been one of the first Russian cities to encounter a Coronavirus outbreak, but unlike other metropolises in the world, Moscow had soon established a serious reserve of medical tools, equipment and medicines. He also said, “you did this in case the situation escalated to the most severe level. Thankfully, you managed to avoid such scenarios. The noticeable improvement in the epidemic situation is the direct result of the measures taken by the Moscow municipality”.
