Based on a study at Oxford University it is claimed that a small dose of the generic steroid dexamethasone reduces the mortality rate among Covid-19 patients.

While many institutions and organizations are in a race to develop vaccines and drugs against the corona virus epidemic that has sickened more than 8 million people worldwide, a study at Oxford University has discovered a drug that lowers the hospital death rate of Covid-19 patients.

Scientists observed that the general use of the steroid drug dexamethasone reduced the mortality rate in hospital-treated Covid-19 patients. Experts who examined data from the study said that if given a small dose, the mortality rate of Covid-19 patients decreased by a ratio of 33 percent.

Professor Martin Landray who led the research at Oxford University said: “the death rate falls if patients on a respirator or on oxygen support are given dexamethasone. Moreover, this is possible at a very low cost

Peter Horby who was involved in the study as well said regarding the fever reducing drug sold in pharmacies, “it’s the only drug that has severely reduced the mortality rate. It’s a big discovery”.
