PLANS OF ERDOGAN BEFORE ELECTIONS

Turkey’s economy (the economy of citizens, in particular) has been deteriorating badly and citizens feel this negative impact even more intense, in which case the opposition further increases its pressure for early elections on the ruling AK Party.

As of now, the AK Party naturally does not dare to hold early elections, because all polls show that it will lose an early election today with almost one hundred percent probability, meaning AK Party is in a way cornered as it looks currently. The question is what the “one and all-powerful person at the top of power” is thinking of doing. What is he planning to get out of this impasse?

Deniz Zeyrek, a prominent journalist writing for SÖZCÜ newspaper, has shared some important statements about Erdogan’s plans for the coming period – and approaching elections, in particular.

Based on said journalist’s article the picture seems to be as follows:

The timetable is unclear, but the country seems to be in the mood for elections. It will probably be a timely election, and there may be a remote possibility for an early election.

The economic situation of the country and the consequences of the corona epidemic caused the government to lose power and votes. All pollsters say that not only the AK Party, but also President Tayyip Erdogan’s vote has fallen.

According to Zeyrek, “Erdogan is expected to go out on the field and start working to reverse this situation. I had written this earlier as well. His staff has planned for two cities a week.”

The journalist goes on to say “As of this week, we can see him handing out tea on the presidential bus. Erdogan’s plan is to increase his own votes and shake off the dead soil on AK Party organizations in the provinces he goes to. And is this possible? The available data shows that this is unlikely.”

The journalist also shares following in regards:

Unemployment is at record highs. There’s a fire in the kitchen. The cost of living has taken its toll, and those who run the country ignore this picture. And to be more than that, it displays the relentless spending, waste, and glamour they make under the cover of reputation, before the eyes of citizens.”

The number of unemployed exceeds 10 million, and the fact that “the President’s men” are paid three, four and even five salaries each also attracts the reaction of the citizen. The President might have another possibility to increase the votes a little bit:  That is to convince the Felicity (Saadet) party to support the Cumhur Alliance (personal comment of the editor is that would not work either). But attempts in regards do not seem to be working so far. There could be another formula for retaining power with existing votes when AK Party cannot increase its votes again? AK Party and MHP’s Cumhur Alliance are looking for a way to do this. For this reason, they are working to change the electoral law. It is understood that August will be spent by the government looking for an electoral system that would win with fewer votes.”

The journalist goes on to say “I know you can’t change the result by changing the law if the nation has made up its mind, but if you still find a magic formula for the Cumhur Alliance, write to me.
