Where is SIGACIK in Turkey? Shining Star of Tourism in Turkish Aegean

A bird's-eye view of SIGACIK in Seferihisar

Turkey which is considered to be the new shining star of tourism currently has an abundant number of unexplored beauties on all three shores of the country. Besides prominent places like Bodrum, Marmaris, Dead Sea, Alanya there are others still unexplored such as SIGACIK, a peaceful summer holiday resort on the Aegean coast of Turkey.

SIGACIK is within the boundaries of SEFERIHISAR town, a CITTASLOW (slow city) as described by the so-calledItalian movement. It lies on a beautiful bay about 50 kms to the west of Izmir, one of the biggest cities of  Turkey with all modern facilities.  Its shores have been home to many of the peoples who made their home in Asia Minor, bringing their rich array of cultures, and the inhabitants of this region were aptly described by the ancient Egyptians as “the people who live in the heart of the sea”.

Today SIGACIK is a most magnificient place to explore for windsurfers.

It has a beautiful view (as seen in photos), blue flag sea all along its coast, most fresh air blowing from KAZ MOUNTAINS (to the north) and certainly very friendly people as well. It owns a modern yacht harbour and a port where cruises from Greek islands are scheduled to call.

There are not many restaurants in SIGACIK except for a few at the harbor where you can taste local fish accompanied by traditional Turkish  drink white RAKI or Turkish wine. To try traditional Turkish cuisine you might need to drive to SEFERİHİSAR where you can find nice food in several restaurants.

The good thing is, SIGACIK is among the very rare spots where a fast growth in population is not expected as the local municipality imposes strict control over housing projects – in compliance with the requirements dictated by citta slow programs.

HISTORY & ANCIENT TEOS

Teos was founded in 1050-1000 BC, one of twelve Ionian cities. In this beautiful part of the Aegean coast the people of  Teos built magnificent architectural monuments, such as the Temple of Dionysus which stands at the edge of the road. The temple was built at the beginning of the 2nd century BC by Hermogenes of Priene and is the largest of all temples to Dionysus in Turkey. It was repaired several times during Roman times but fresh earthquakes took their toll. Walking along the paved road of Teos your eye is caught by a column capital here, and a water conduit there.

REAL ESTATE IN SIGACIK & SEFERIHISAR, AKARCA

This beautiful spot offers very convenient priced summer houses for sale, compared to those at more popular (and packed) places such as SEFERIHISAR, SIGACIK and AKARCA etc.

This feature makes  it one of the most promising places for a profitable investment as well, as real estate has not yet sky-rocketed in this area. You can buy beautiful houses with garden (not many available) a couple of hundred meters to the beautiful water at SIGACIK and AKARCA, for the price of a very humble small (ordinary flat) at places like ÇEŞME and URLA.
