Claims that Saudi Arabia will start imposing an embargo on Turkish goods from October 1st have prompted the transport sector to act. One of the most important steps in this regard came from Maersk, the world’s largest container shipping company. The Danish logistics giant has sent letters to all its customers sending cargo to Saudi Arabia, warning that goods sent from Turkey could be stuck at customs.

“All shipments originating from Turkey to Saudi Arabia will be subject to various import bans and/or slowing customs procedures, ” Maersk said in an email to its customers.

In this context, many loads may experience serious waits at terminals or may be received by their importer with delay or else these loads may be completely abandoned to customs. Within these problems that occur outside of our control, in accordance with the Turkish Commercial Code, Article 1207 of the right to demand the delivery of goods sent do not use if shipper, in accordance with the contract of carriage of insurance and other receivables (demurrage, detention, destination, local fees and return freight back to Turkey, including but not limited to) it is important to note that the carrier is obligated to pay. We recommend that you, our valued customers, take all necessary measures to minimize your potential losses. For more information and details, please contact your Maersk customer representatives.”

The issue is also among the most important agendas of UTIKAD (the International Association of Transport and logistics service manufacturers) and the International Association of shippers (UND). Utikad President has said that no official statement has yet been made on this issue, but they are concerned about the growth of problems. On the other hand Utikad sent an official letter to Faisal A. Alsaleh, director of the National Logistics Committee of the Union of Chambers of Saudi Arabia

It is reported that UTIKAD had concerned decision (application) confirmed based on several sources. However, no official return to Utikad has yet been made.

On the other hand, an official of an airline carrying cargo from Turkey to Saudi Arabia also told the world that there had been some talks with Saudi Arabian officials on this issue and that they would soon officially share information.
