In Afghanistan, the Taliban reportedly entered the capital Kabul “from all sides” without encountering much resistance. The Taliban also took control of Jalalabad in the east of the country after taking Mazar-i-Sharif on Saturday.

The rapid defeat of government forces against the Taliban has increased pressure for the resignation of President Ashraf Ghani. The President faces the option of waging war against the Taliban to keep the capital Kabul under control or surrendering.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Embassy had made a statement on its social media account and called on Turkish citizens in the region to remind them that clashes across the country had badly increased.

“In light of the adverse security situation in a large part of the country, it is important that our citizens traveling to or from Afghanistan contact our Embassy/Consulate General immediately at the following numbers and pass on their contact information,” the statement said.
