Deputy says antidepressant use in Turkey has almost doubled in 10 years

There was an increase of 2.2 million boxes in antidepressant use in one year. When the figures of the last 10 years are compared, there is a big increase. The use of antidepressants, which was 37.2 million boxes in 2012, increased to 61.8 million boxes in 2022. An opposition deputy said, “The economic crisis has created an anxiety disorder in citizens. The government has disrupted the psychology of the citizen.”

The CHP Deputy said that the increase in the use of antidepressants has reached alarming proportions in terms of public health. The deputy who examined the use of antidepressants in the last 10 years found that 37 million 280 thousand 936 boxes were used in 2012 whereas 61 million 870 thousand boxes were consumed in the year 2022.

Stating that the use of antidepressants, which was 37 million 280 thousand 936 boxes in 2012, increased by about 66 percent to 61 million 870 thousand 998 boxes in 2022, he said drug consumption had increased by 24 million 612 thousand 610 boxes in the last 10 years. He noted that due to the impact of the economic crisis, the citizen had found the remedy in taking antidepressant medication.
