Solar Energy Mobilization yields positive results: $10 billion investment realized

The solar mobilization initiated by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) has exceeded expectations thanks to the regulations on unlicensed electricity generation. The regulation has resulted in investments reaching nearly $10 billion.

The President of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), stated that they had encountered investment enthusiasm beyond their expectations within a year following the regulation in solar energy. He said, “Investments amounting to nearly $10 billion have been realized during this period. Within 12 months, unlicensed capacity allocations were made for over 14,000 production facilities, surpassing 12,000 megawatts of installed capacity.”

Last August, an amendment to the “Regulation on Unlicensed Electricity Generation” was introduced, sparking a solar energy investment mobilization.

The statement pointed out that the steps towards unlicensed electricity generation had facilitated consumers’ self-consumption of solar energy, enabling them to sell surplus capacity back to the system and generate income from the excess electricity produced.

Furthermore, it was noted that under the regulations, consumers who couldn’t find space to establish unlicensed production facilities in densely populated areas or industrial zones now have the opportunity to set up facilities anywhere in the country.

The EPDK president whose views were included in the statement, mentioned that a year had passed since the regulation came into effect. He commented, “Those who criticized the regulation hastily without understanding it and made comments like ‘the lights will go out, renewable energy will be sidelined’ have been proven wrong.”

He emphasized that the regulation had opened the door for everyone to become an energy investor easily. He stated: “With a regulation that allowed anyone to ‘produce anywhere they want, consume anywhere they want’ without considering Turkey as a single region, we launched a solar mobilization, and thankfully, within a year, we encountered an investment enthusiasm and effort beyond our expectations. These figures will continue to increase exponentially, and with the solar mobilization, all of Turkey will continue to benefit.”
